Group Cycling

 

The Program

Our Group Cycling program ensures efficient and effective cardiovascular conditioning for all levels of riders. We do this by making extensive use of MYZONE heart rate tracking system to objectively assess fitness levels and training intensity. Additionally, the Group Cycling program is based on the Spinning Energy Zones format to ensure periodized and comprehensive training.

The Ride

Classes consist of riding a cross-terrain course on a ride set to music by the cycling coach. During the class, students will ride in the flats, climb hills in a seated and standing position, and jump in and out of the saddle. There is a gradual emphasis on leg speed and strength, as well as on cardiovascular conditioning.

Our Instructors

All of our instructors are nationally certified through Group Cycling Certification and committed to on-going training at both a local and national level. Our instructor team will help you meet your fitness goals.

Our Bikes

At the Memorial Athletic Club we have 20 Keiser M3i cycles. These bikes use a magnetic non contact form of resistance and are equipped with triple link pedals. The Triple link pedal will accommodate LOOK, SPD and regular fitness type footwear. Once you ride one of these smooth, whisper-quiet bikes you'll never want to ride a different bike. Most every rider will be able to find their set up due to the infinite adjustments of the seat, handlebar and seat-post. All bikes come equipped with a computer which tracks, time, distance, calories, gear, heart rate and power output.

SPIVI is an interactive fitness platform designed to make indoor cycling more engaging, motivating, and fun. Through real-time performance tracking and immersive visuals, SPIVI transforms every ride into an exciting fitness experience.

During class, participants can view performance metrics such as:

• Heart Rate
• Power Output
• Cadence (RPM)
• Speed

 

These metrics are displayed through live leaderboards and interactive 3D simulations, creating a motivating environment that encourages participants to challenge themselves while riding at their own pace.

Whether you're a beginner or an experienced cyclist, SPIVI provides instant feedback and a unique level of engagement that enhances every workout.

MYZONE is a new innovative heart rate based system that uses wireless and cloud technology to accurately and conveniently monitor physical activity. It monitors heart rate, calories and time exercising that converts into MYZONE Effort Points (MEPs), with a focus on rewarding effort rather than fitness. MYZONE belts are available for purchase at the MAC or MAC for Women.

Begin N Spin

New to Indoor Cycling?

If you're new to spinning or have never used the SPIVI system, we highly recommend attending our Begin N Spin class before participating in a regular Group Cycling class.

This introductory session will teach you:

• Proper bike setup and positioning
• Cycling terminology and riding techniques
• How to use the SPIVI program
• Understanding cadence, power, and heart rate metrics
• Basic class structure and expectations

 

What to Bring

✔ Comfortable exercise clothing (short-sleeve shirt and shorts recommended)
✔ Water bottle
✔ Towel
✔ Positive attitude and willingness to learn

Before Class

✔ Reserve your bike through the MAC App
✔ Arrive 10–15 minutes early if it's your first class

 

Most Important Tip

 

Always ride at an effort level that feels comfortable and appropriate for your current fitness level. Our instructors will guide and encourage you, but every participant is encouraged to work at their own pace.
